Was King Edmund Buried Here?


An article by the chairman of a local historical society, and published in the Suffolk Free Press on the 25th May 2017, suggested that King Edmund's remains might have been buried in the Lady Chapel of Holy Trinity Church. For a link to the article click here

The Rector's response is below:

"There are all sorts of theories about what happened to St Edmund's remains after the dissolution of the Abbey in Bury St Edmunds 500 years ago. The Lady Chapel would certainly have been a very special place to lay him to rest, and it is interesting that St Edmund features on our medieval glass. This is the first time we have heard this theory so we have no immediate plans to start digging! â€‹However who knows, there have been kings in car parks after all ..."
